Is that a bird? A plane? A UFO? No, it’s a zeppelin! Over the weekend there was an unwelcome visitor to campus.

If you happened to look up to the sky over the weekend you might have had the chance to see a big fiery object in the air over Drew’s campus. A zeppelin named the Hindenburg met its demise in the commuter parking lot on Saturday.

“I have never seen anything like it,” said one first year Drew student. “It was crazy. I just looked up and saw a big floating thing over the school and it was on fire. I thought aliens were going to start attacking.”

First responders were on the scene within minutes and were able to put out the fire caused by the crash in under 10 minutes. There was no damage to surrounding cars or buildings because of the crash or the resulting fire.

The commuter parking lot was evacuated and closed down as a result of the crash. The lot will remain closed for the foreseeable future as the police start an investigation to determine why the crash happened.

The Hindenburg’s charred remains will stay on campus for the foreseeable future as investigators do not want to move it off the active investigation scene.

For some daring students the remains of the Hindenburg have become a photo op. So far no one has been caught sneaking on to the active investigative scene but there have been images circulating social media. Campus Security has issued a warning to any student seen sneaking into the parking lot or posting a photo at the crash site will be fined for interrupting an official investigation.

But that is not Campus Security’s only response to the unfortunate Hindenburg crash. The Hindenburg received a ticket from campus security because of the crash. The reason for the ticket: not having a parking pass and taking up more than one parking spot.

Campus Security issued a statement regarding the issue, which said, “Everyone or anything who parks in a parking lot on campus needs to have a parking pass and needs to be parked correctly in one spot only.”

It seems like Campus Security is taking its job seriously and making no exceptions as to who receives a ticket.

Is this overkill or blind justice?

The Acron reached out to The Zeppelin Company, who owns the Hindenburg, for comments on why the crash happened and how they felt regarding the ticket they received. They declined to respond.
