Golf Prepares for Championships

The men’s and women’s golf teams competed in their final tournaments before Landmark Conference championships. The women placed seventh overall in the Ithaca Invitational in Ithaca, NY on April 22, while the men hosted their only home tournament of the season at the Spring Brook Country Club on April 23.

The women’s tournament was originally planned to be April 21 and 22, but due to course conditions it had to be shortened to only one round of 18-holes instead of the planned 36 holes.

The women were led by Lucy Lamb (‘21) in the Ithaca Invitational, where she finished tied for seventh individually with an 83, seven strokes behind the first place finisher. Marissa Broderick (‘21) was close behind her teammate, shooting an 86 for the day, good for an 11th place finish. Rounding out the tournament for the Rangers, Kristine Masseria (‘21) earned a 34th place finish with a score of 98 and Kristen Bubrowiecki (‘20) tied for 50th, carding a 117 overall.

Based on their individual performances, Drew posted a score of 384, which earned them a seventh place finish out of the 11 teams competing at the tournament. Ithaca College won the team title with an overall score of 330.

The Rangers finish their season on April 28 and 29 as they travel to Selinsgrove, PA for the first Landmark Conference Championships. In the preseason poll, they were picked to finish in second place.

The men did not have to far to travel for their April 23 home tournament at Spring Brook Country Club.

Michael Bliss (‘21) led the Rangers, shooting an 83 on the par-70 course; this was good for a fourth place finish. Not far behind was Kushal Renjen (‘21); he finished in 15th place with a 93. Ryan D’Alessandro (‘18) was one stroke back, ending in 16th with a score of 94. To round out the scoring for the Rangers, Anthony Castranova (‘20) shot a 98 for an 18th place finish and Sotirios Doolen (‘19) tied for 21st with a 102.

Drew finished with a 366, good for a fourth place finish in the tournament. Muhlenberg took the team title with a total score of 325.

Next up for the Rangers is the first Landmark Conference Championships, which will be held on May 5 and 6 at the Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, PA.
