The Drew University men’s and women’s golf teams concluded their successful inaugural seasons at the Goucher Invitational with strong finishes. On Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24 the Rangers teed off at the Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Maryland. The women’s team was not eligible for a team score, with only three women entered. Nevertheless, the Ranger women all took home top 5 individual performances.
Lucy Lamb (‘21) and Marissa Broderick (‘21) placed 1-2. Lamb finished Monday tied for first place with an 87 and then carded an 84 on Tuesday for a combined total of 171. Broderick finished three strokes off her first place teammate with scores of 88 and 86 in second place. Kristine Masseria (‘21) rounded out the top five with cards of 93 and 92 for a total of 185.
With three of the top four finishers, the men’s team captured first place. After sitting three strokes behind the leaders in second place at the conclusion of day one, the Rangers shot eleven strokes better than the rest of the field Tuesday with a 355 card on the day. The men’s two-day score of 667 gave them a whopping 18 stroke victory over the second place finishers Goucher and Southern Virginia.
Michael Bliss (‘21) led the Ranger men with cards of 82 and 81; he finished in second place, two shots behind the winner with a 163. Teammate Kushal Renjen (‘21) placed third with a 165, shooting an 82 and 83 in the two days. Ryan Fitzsimmons (‘21) shot an 83 and 84 giving him a fourth-place tie with a 36-hole card of 167. Matthew Rizzo (‘21), also finished in the top ten, carding an 85 and 87 for a total of 172, to earn ninth place.
