The Rangers have won two out of their last five games at home. Drew has a handled a tough stretch of games in the past week, five games over four days. This was the first set of home games since the team’s spring break trip to Florida.
New Jersey City University came to Madison to defeat the Rangers by a score of 10-6. Jendy Castillo (’19), Jayson Mitch (’19) and Anthony Tagliaferro (’20) led the team, racking up five hits in total. The Rangers stormed back in their next game as they beat the 24th ranked team Ramapo by a score of 6-5. Paul Roth (’18) grabbed his second win of the year as pitcher while Jonathan Rodrigues (’17) led the team with three hits.
Over the weekend the team took on Landmark Conference rival Catholic University, winning the final game of the three-game series. The Rangers lost the first two games on Saturday, scoring three runs in each of the games. However, Drew came back to beat their rivals on Sunday by a score of 7-3. Roth grabbed his third win of the season as the Rangers held Catholic to only three runs. Mike Miraglia (’17) and Marc Cohen (’17) led the team with two hits.
The Rangers ended their stint at home when they traveled to Swarthmore, Penn. The team took on Swarthmore University and beat them in a tight pitcher’s duel 2-0. Drew only needed two runs that came in the ninth inning because of the great pitching on Drew’s staff. Patrick Boyle (’17) led the team with seven innings pitched to keep Swarthmore at zero, while Ryan Fitzpatrick (’17) finished them off by keeping Swarthmore shut out.
The team will travel home to take on Franklin & Marshall on Sunday at 1:30 pm. They will continue their home game stretch the next day as they take on Rutgers-Newark at 3:30 on Monday, April 3.
