Since the campus switched to Gourmet Dining for food services, a lot of changes have been made. There is, for example, the addition of Grubhub and the removal of Peet’s, but the fan favorites are the new meal stations in the Ehinger Center — specifically Halal Shack and Yella’s. One of the most popular new meal items is the milkshakes from Yella’s. These have become everyone’s favorite sweet treat on campus.
The milkshakes from Yella’s are a significant improvement from those that have been in the C-Store for years, which have been removed this year. They are not only an upgrade in accessibility but also in quality. Oftentimes the C-Store milkshakes would not blend completely, no matter how many times you put it in the blender.
Besides that, a milkshake is something that you want when it is hot outside and you need to cool down. The C-Store opens at 6 p.m. when it is already turning dark. This is one of the reasons why the C-Store’s milkshakes were not flying off the shelves nearly as much as the ones at Yella’s are now.
The C-Store is also on the far end of campus, so a lot of people would have to walk in the dark to get there. The journey is especially a hike for residents in Hoyt or Asbury. Either way, after 7 p.m. I want to be in my dorm, not walking across the dark campus for a milkshake.
Each Yella’s milkshake comes about 10-15 minutes after ordering, but it is well worth the wait. The thick consistency and rich taste make for a great way to cool down with the summer air still around us. Yella’s carries milkshakes that come in caramel, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and cookies and cream. Every flavor tastes so good.
The addition of Yella’s milkshakes has become a campus-wide phenomenon – enough so that people walking to classes with their Yella’s milkshakes has become the new norm.
One student, Lapo Miles (‘26), was walking around campus with her milkshake, and when asked for her thoughts on the addition she said, “This milkshake is my only reason for living.” A lot of other students feel the same way.
Another student, Dee Cohen (‘26), also had some words. When asked the same question, she said, “I am lactose intolerant, and I still go and get milkshakes at the EC.” This is how good the Yella’s milkshakes are.
Drew University has made many improvements with the dining services this semester. The addition of Yella’s and their milkshakes has definitely been one of the best. Make sure to stop by the Ehinger Center to see what all the excitement is about.
