Softball Drops Doubleheader to Catholic

The Drew softball team was back in action this Monday with a doubleheader against their Landmark rival, the Catholic Cardinals. The Rangers were looking to stop their four-game losing streak as they took on the Cardinals at home, but Catholic had other plans. After Drew went up in their first game 4-0, the Cardinals came back to take the lead in the fifth inning and only added to it throughout their nine inning game. Stephanie Burns (‘21) threw eight innings for the Rangers but gave up 14 hits and suffered her third loss of the season.

After dropping the first game of their two-game set, the Rangers would not be able to salvage the second game. The Cardinals won in a decisive manner as they were able to score eight runs to the Rangers’ one. Catholic piled it on early with six runs in the first two innings and two more in the sixth to seal the deal.

After being swept by the Cardinals, the Rangers continued their skid with another doubleheader loss to William Paterson University. The season that had started off so promising for the Rangers has come crashing down around them as they have not been able to win since coming back from spring break. The Rangers have also dropped two Conference Series, putting their playoff chances in hot water early on in the season.

The Rangers will be back in action this Thursday, April 5, at Montclair State University. If they’re going to have any chance to see postseason action, they’ll have to take these games and start a new winning streak, quick.
