Women’s Fencing Goes Undefeated in Opening Meet

Women’s fencing opened their season undefeated on November 5 at the LIU Post Invitational. The Rangers won all six of their matches against Wagner, Yeshiva, Hunter, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wellesley and LIU Post. Coach Vince Paragano achieved his 100th combined win as head of the Ranger men’s and women’s fencing teams.

Caitlin Kotz (‘19) was Drew’s top performer, going 15-1 in the foil competition. She also recorded her 200th individual win in her Ranger career. Lydia Segal (‘20) went 12-4 in the foil. In Epee, Erin Heller (‘20) was 13-4 and Anna Scheckel (‘18) was 9-4. Emily Huber (‘21) went 12-1 in her first collegiate sabre matches, while saber teammate Pearl Sutter (‘18) notched three crucial 5-4 victories against Wellesley to record a 10-4 mark.

Drew opened the tournament with a 20-7 defeat of Wagner, followed by two 25-2 beatings over Yeshiva and Hunter. The Rangers rallied against Division I program Fairleigh Dickinson in a 15-12 victory. In their fifth match, they topped Wellesley 16-11 and finished the event with an 18-9 triumph over the host, LIU Post.

The Rangers return to competition Sunday, November 12 at the Vassar Open, where the men will open their season.
