The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts, located in downtown Madison, will be hosting an event called Craft Cocktails & Conversation on Thursday, November 16. The event will be held in the museum at 7 p.m. and will feature a lecture by Richard E. Ocejo, Associate Professor of Sociology at John Jay College and the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, as well as a question and answer session afterwards.
Ocejo will discuss Masters of Craft: Old Jobs in the New Urban Economy, his latest book. The book explores the revival of the trades of bartending, distilling, barbering and butchering, and how these usually low paying and low status jobs are being given a hip new twist by young people.
The event will also, of course, feature handmade cocktails by Ocejo himself and will be catered by local restaurant, Slamwich Scratch Kitchen.
Tickets are $25 and only for those 21 and up. Those interested in attending can register online at metc.org.
If you are unable to attend this event, make sure to stop by the museum and see their current exhibit Spark: The Explosive and Dirty History of Light, which will be up until next February. Admission is free for Drew students with a valid Drew ID. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on Mondays.
