The men’s tennis team enjoyed a very successful fall season, beating Farmingdale State 7-2 in their only dual match of the season. Based on his performance at the No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles, Geoffrey Diehl (‘20) was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, the first time this year for the men’s team after Maria Navas Espinal (‘20) won this honor last week on the women’s side.
On October 5, the Rangers traveled to Farmingdale State to open their season. They set the tone for the day early, winning two of their three doubles matches; Diehl and Eric Gomez (‘21) paired up at No. 2 doubles to win 8-4. Chris Morville (‘19) and Bryce Kennedy (‘20) beat Farmingdale’s No. 3 doubles 8-3.
The Rangers found success again in the singles matches, sweeping the No. 2-6 matches with Vineet Vemulapally (‘19) picking up a victory at No. 2, Diehl winning at the No. 3 spot and Parker Diamond (‘20) claiming victory at no. 4. Diamond had the closest singles match of the day, after easily winning his first set 6-1 he then tightly won the second set 7-5 to secure his victory. Kennedy soundly beat his opponent at the No. 5 singles spot 6-1, 6-2 before Goldstein beat his opponent at the No. 6 spot to finish the sweep for the Rangers.
Diehl and the rest of the Rangers will not be back in action until February 17 when they host the Ranger Invitational to open their spring season.
