Women’s Golf Plays in Inaugural Tournament

On Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th in South Hadley, Massachusetts the Drew University women’s golf team opened their inaugural season at the Mount Holyoke Invitational. The Rangers placed 12th in a field of 18 teams in the premier Division III women’s golf tournament in the Northeast with a final team score card of 713. Drew shot a 357 on Saturday, and followed up the performance on Sunday with a 356.

Four Rangers finished within 8 strokes of each other for the tournament. Marissa Broderick (‘21) led the way shooting an 88 on Saturday and an 86 on Sunday for a 36 hole card of 174. Her performance placed her in a 45th place tie in a field of 101 athletes. Broderick also earned Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for her efforts, marking the second straight week in which a Drew golfer earned the honor.

Kristine Masseria (‘21) finished her first collegiate tournament not far behind tied for 49th place with a score of 175. She shot a 90 on Saturday and an 85 on Sunday, the team best for the two day event. Teammate Lucy Lamb (‘21) carded a 91 and 95, respectively for a score of 181, placing her tied for 56th place. Fellow freshman Sarah Gass (‘21) placed 61st recording an 88 and a 90 for a card of 183 on the weekend.

The Rangers tee off next as hosts of the Drew Fall Invitational being held at the Spring Brook Country Club on Oct. 3. The men’s golf team returns to action this weekend in Abbottstown, Md. at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic.
