Drew’s baseball team has moved forward in their chase for a Landmark Conference playoff spot with a complete three-game sweep of the University of Scranton this past weekend. Throughout the three games, Drew outscored their opponent 25-7, with their largest win coming from a 17-5 score in game two.

Drew’s overall record moves to 20-11 and they have put together a four game winning streak. During the first game of the series, Ryan Fitzpatrick (‘17) won the pitching duel on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing no runs off of just four hits. Zach Lipshitz (‘19) was able to hit a double in the first inning and was eventually driven to home plate by a double from Tommy Broyles (‘17).

In the second game of the series, Drew absolutely obliterated Scranton. Scorers included Matthew Lange (‘20), Jonathan Rodrigues (‘17) and Lipshitz, each hitting a trio of runs. Max Felsenstein (‘20) and Mike Miraglia (‘17) each had three RBI’s.

In the third and final game of the series, Drew once again edged their opponent, this time by a score of 7-2. Drew was able to get men on base early on in the game, and was able to advance them to home plate from a pair of SAC flies. In the sixth inning Isaiah Mateo (‘17) had a two-RBI double that gave Drew a 4-1 lead. After eventually gaining a 5-2 lead, Joseph Grossane (‘19) collected a triple into right center field in the eighth inning that brought in two more runs, this brought the final score to 7-2.

This upcoming weekend, Drew has four games, opening with a 3 p.m. game against Salisbury on Friday. Drew then faces conference rival Susquehanna University in a three game series on Saturday and Sunday as they near the end of their regular season.
