The women’s lacrosse team snapped their losing streak on Saturday, April 1 with a 17-7 win over College of Old Westbury at home. The Rangers showed their dominance early in the game, opening with nine straight goals to begin the contest 9-0 in favor of the Rangers. Despite Old Westbury picking up momentum and scoring four goals towards the end of the first half, Drew was able to expand their lead heading into the second half, securing the victory by a comfortable ten point margin.
Anna Fiorini (‘17) helped to begin the strong scoring campaign, logging a hat trick in the initial nine goal run. She added another goal and three assists before the game was over, logging a career-high of nine points for the game. Theresa Shafron (‘17) maintained her status as the team’s highest scorer, netting three goals as well as three assists, good for a six point game. She now has 25 goals this season, the highest on the team. Five other Rangers contributed to the scoring effort, each adding two goals to secure the win for the team.
The women’s lacrosse team pulled out another impressive win on Wednesday against Kean University, bagging a second win for the week, after their defeat of Old Westbury on Saturday. The Rangers started off strong with senior Morgan Mason (’17) scoring her 22nd goal of the season at 43 seconds into the game. Kean pulled ahead by a few goals, but Drew managed to tie up the score four to four at 7:02.
The Rangers will be back in action, home this weekend, April 8, against Elizabethtown at 3 p.m. The women have five games left of their season, all conference, three of which are at home.
