Drew University’s softball team was unable to break their losing streak as they dropped a doubleheader against New York University. The team currently has a record of 3-13, which they will seek to improve on as they enter conference play.

The Rangers dropped their first game 6-2, after Emma Agostini kept the Violets at bay for five innings, allowing Drew to gain a 2-0 lead, before the Violets staged a comeback, scoring six times in the final innings off of ten hits and two walks.

Despite the loss, the first game was not without impressive performances on behalf of the Rangers. Heather Ronchi (‘18) notched an RBI with a groundout. Lauren Mastropierro (‘18) added to the team’s tally, bringing in a run with her single at the bottom of the first inning.

The second game against the Violets was a familiar story for the Rangers, as they once again opened 2-0, before falling to NYU 5-3. The Rangers scored twice off a double from Brooke Adams (‘18), both Meghan McGuire (‘17) and Bethany Budner (‘19) crossed the plate. Phylicia Pellot (‘17) rounded out the scoring with an RBI at the bottom of the fourth before the game was shortened after five innings due to darkness.

The Rangers continue with their conference play against Juniata College on Saturday, April 8 at 1pm and 3pm at home.
