Everyone has received several emails over the past few weeks and even over the summer about parking on campus. We were asked to move our cars around so that film crews are able to better access our academic buildings in order to film an upcoming movie.

Even with so much talk on Yik Yak about newer movies filming on Drew University’s campus, many current or prospective students do not know what has already been filmed at Drew.

One of the most recent and big-name movies filmed at Drew was “Insidious: The Red Door” (2023) starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as Josh and Renai Lambert, parents to Dalton, who is played by Ty Simpkins. Tilghman House was turned into a fraternity house for the movie, showing the son, Dalton, experiencing college. Filming on campus happened back in August 2022.

Another notable movie that was filmed on campus was “The Family Stone” (2005) starring Dermot Mulroney as Everett Stone and Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton, Everett’s uptight businesswoman girlfriend. The grand Mead Hall served as a bus station, as well as a few other scenic shots around Drew. The filming on Drew’s campus occurred in February 2005.

Recently, the most notable movies filmed on campus were filmed over the summer, with stars such as Adam Sandler making appearances. Sandler’s daughter is the star of an upcoming movie featuring Drew’s campus, titled Roommates; however, there has not been a release date announced.

One student, Troy Larkins-Johnson (‘28), was able to meet Adam Sandler while he was on campus over the summer. “Oh, it was awesome. Adam Sandler was nice and funny, started a conversation while I was starstruck,” said Larkins-Johnson.

The movie was primarily shot on campus this past summer, with some brief filming last month in October.

Although little information has been released about the newest movie being filmed on campus, it is still gauging interest, even from prospective Drew students. Allison Cannon (‘28), a tour guide for Drew Admissions, said, “It’s a part of the tour guide script to point out the historical buildings on campus and the filming that has happened there, and since filming is active right now, it’s really important to bring it up to get people excited about the campus.”

Most of the recent filming has been on the second floor chemistry wing of the Hall of Sciences building. Students are excited to see what movie the filming is for this time. Hopefully, more information will surface through email or word of mouth.

Overall, it is good for both Drew as a school and its students to have so many films and possibly even shows shot on our very own campus. The chance for students to be able to point to a scene in a movie and go, “Hey, that’s my school! I know where that is!” is exciting for many people connected to the Drew community, and it gives the school some much-needed attention.
