To promote self care and student civic engagement, Jodi Velez (‘27) brought Sol De Janeiro fragrance samples and the Center for Civic Engagement together at the Sunset Social on March 4.
In partnership with HerCampus Media, the Center for Civic Engagement was able to bring free samples of Sol De Janeiro’s Cheriosa 59 Delicia Drench to the first 75 students who attended the Sunset Social.
A key component of the Sunset Social was the role of the Center for Civic Engagement. Velez would not have been able to bring HerCampus Media or Sol De Janeiro to Drew’s campus without the experience she received from the department.
HerCampus Media is a woman-founded and operated company devoted to empowering the next generation of women in media and marketing careers through creating an ecosystem of successful jobs, internships and partnerships. They work with college students and campuses all over the country, bringing the opportunity for many students to gain extra experience in marketing.
However, being a small and private campus, Drew hadn’t been on the list of available schools to participate in events like this.
Velez is a second-year Action Scholar student and consistently works on solving problems and advocating for others.
With this experience and the demand to bring a new community to our school, Velez contacted HerCampus Media and fought for our school to be able to receive the same benefits that other schools had.
Velez was successful in her efforts and brought both teachers and students to the Sunset Social to pick up their free sample and learn more about civic engagement as well as the Drew Good Bulletin Board.
The Drew Good Bulletin Board is a digital resource created by the Center for Civic Engagement for students who are looking for opportunities to do volunteer work, earn experiential learning hours and gain hands-on work experience on and off campus.
