I have been a big fan of the Marvel Studios movies since I was in middle school. All of the Infinity Saga movies were masterpieces and classics for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, several of the movies after that saga that could have been great fell off hard and disappointed a lot of fans. The new Captain America movie is one of those movies that could have been amazing, but did not live up to expectations.

Going into the theater, I was thrilled to see a continuation of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” (2021) series and how Sam Wilson’s character would keep struggling with having shoes to fill as the “new Steve Rogers.” However, the movie did not use this character arc as loudly as the series did. It felt like they wanted to still include it as part of the movie, but did not want it in people’s faces like it was in the Disney Plus series.

There was also a lot of information in the movie that was thrown in randomly with little to no explanation for people who have not seen some of the older movies or the more recent, less popular films. The movie refers back to characters seen in “The Incredible Hulk” (2008) film that a lot of people either did not enjoy or have not seen in years. I wish the movie would have explained more of the significance of the information and some of the key events in the Hulk movie better before throwing it into the main plot of the movie.

Even though I have a lot of issues with some of the writing in this movie, there are a few things I did genuinely enjoy. One of them was the chemistry Sam Wilson had with the supporting cast, and the acting of the supporting actors and actresses in general. Seeing Isaiah Bradley come back for this film and explore his trauma of being used as an experiment by the government was something I appreciated being explored again after the series.

I also really admired how the fight scenes in the sky were filmed. A lot of the angles reminded me of how the “Top Gun” movies were shot, so I really appreciated being transported into that world and into the action.

Overall, I would rate this new Marvel movie seven out of 10 stars. The ratings of the general public so far have not been great at all, with the movie getting a 49% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer. However, some of the general audience seems not to dislike the movie as much, since it currently has a 3.8/5 stars rating on the Rotten Tomatoes site. I do wish there was better writing in this movie, but I did enjoy a lot of aspects of it. I hope we get another Captain America movie soon so we can see more of Sam Wilson in the role.
