The Philadelphia Eagles took on the Kansas City Chiefs in the highly anticipated Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. As the clear-cut best teams in the National Football League all year, the two franchises appeared to be on a collision course for a rematch of their legendary duel in Super Bowl LVII just two years ago.

Though the teams entered this year’s Super Bowl with sky-high expectations to rekindle the same level of competitiveness as their 2023 matchup, this installment was quite the opposite. In a shock to most of the 127.7 million viewers, according to FOX’s viewership data, the Eagles bolted out to a commanding 34-0 lead before even the 4th quarter could begin. What was hyped as being one of the great Super Bowl matchups of all time turned into quite the opposite: a one-sided victory lap for Philadelphia.

However, the one-sided nature of the contest did not stop Drew’s campus from celebrating the monumental victory. The Monday following Super Bowl Sunday saw the Path covered in the Eagles’ shades of kelly and midnight green, while the team’s fight song, “Fly Eagles Fly” played throughout the Simon Forum as various Drew sports teams went on with their scheduled workouts or practices for the day.

Lifelong Eagles fan, and pitcher on the Drew Baseball team, Chris Tobia (‘26) was ecstatic to watch his team bring home the Lombardi trophy for the second time. “It was the coolest experience ever to not only beat the team that beat us two years ago, but to do it in such a dominant way. I’ll never forget that night for the rest of my life.”

As the Drew spring sports embark on their own journeys to bring championships, the dominance and persistence of this year’s Eagles team will serve as the gold standard for success in athletics.
