A cozy and inviting atmosphere welcomed both old faces and new at the Book Club’s first meeting of the year on Sept. 24 in the Ehinger Center. With free soda and snacks provided, everyone settled in and the meeting started with each person introducing themselves. The group, coming together despite an array of interests, discussed what book they would want to read for the next month. The senior members of the club talked about how they had a pension for murder-mystery, thriller and horror genres.

In the past, the group has read books such as “The Loneliest Girl in the Universe” by James Lauren and “Dark Matter” by Blake Crouch. They are open to any genres suggested, and the floor was open to everyone in attendance to recommend what books they wanted to read.  Members of the book club also emphasized that the reading from the book club is for fun, and should not add more stress to an already busy student’s day. Conversation was lighthearted and everyone was able to happily discuss everything from books to broader life within the club meeting.

Books such as “The Venue” by T.J. Payne and “The Honeys” by Ryan La Sala were proposed. With both of these books being in the horror and thriller genres, it seems the book club is in no rush to stray away from their usual books of interest.

With another murder/thriller book decided as their next conquest, the book club meeting ended. Treasurer Eva Woolard (‘26) said afterwards, “We’re excited about seeing a lot of new faces. We had a really good first meeting so we have high expectations for this year.”
