The Drew Bookworms’ Book Matchmaking event drew in many book lovers with the lure of free novels and tasty wings. The book club hosted the Valentine’s Day themed event in McClendon Lounge on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
With free wings and raffles, the Bookworms lured in students both in and out of touch with their book love-lives. They aimed to create a stress-free environment for everyone while rekindling a love of reading.
“We wanted people to fall in love with books,” said Bookworms treasurer Eva Woolard (‘26). “We got a bunch of books and people can come here and they can sit down, they can enjoy themselves, and they can pick out a book that resonates with them.”
The event’s main feature was a table covered in books that students could browse and take home. From classics to contemporary romance to young adult fantasy, there were plenty of options for students to explore.

Various arts and crafts provided students with an opportunity to de-stress while crocheting, painting or making scratchboard designs. Creativity was abundant as students made fun designs like jellyfish and cows. Just as appealing to many students were the wings, coleslaw, pickles and candy that the Bookworms also provided.
Students were also able to enter two raffles for self-care and self-love themed baskets, with prizes including squeezy stress balls, lotion, socks, a water bottle, a blanket and more.
The Bookworms hope that their success with this event will increase attendance at their book club meetings, highlighting their excitement for bringing out students’ love for reading.
“We’re super excited about the turn-out of the event. We are really happy that we got a lot of people, and we’re also really happy that a lot more people are learning about the book club, and hopefully we’ll have a good turn out at our meetings as well,” said Woolard.
One attendee was Felix Ban (‘24). “I have been meaning to get back into reading and so I decided to see if there were any books that I would like,” said Ban.
Ban did find an interesting book to take home and is “really excited to read it.”
Commenting on the best part of the event, Ban said, “It would have to be the good books, but I also really enjoyed the company and the pickles.”
“I think my favorite thing right now is seeing how happy everyone is about the books,” finalized Woolard. “When we first took out the books, a lot of people were saying, like, ‘can we really take them home,’ and ‘how many can we take,’ and it was just really nice to see people fall in love with books.”
The Bookworms host book club meetings every other Sunday. To keep up to date with their upcoming events, make sure to follow them on Instagram @thedrewubookworms.
