The sixth seed Drew Rangers women’s volleyball team lost 3-0 to the third-seed Elizabethtown Blue Jays on Tuesday, Nov. 7 in their first-ever Landmark Conference Championship tournament.

The women’s team fought hard at Elizabethtown College with a strong 11-10 lead over the Blue Jays in the first set. Despite this, the Blue Jays fought back and closed the first set 25-17 over Drew.

Teeya Desgoutte (‘26) led the team in kills with 18 while being followed by Marissa Guajardo (‘27) with six kills.

Drew was unable to stop Elizabethtown’s momentum and lost the second set 25-16. With the advent of the third set, the Ranger’s fought tooth and nail until the end, finding a small lead 21-20 before getting edged out by the Blue Jays 25-23 to end their season.

Although Drew volleyball’s season has come to a close, the team managed to make it to its first-ever postseason match in only the fourth year of the team’s existence.

The volleyball team’s addition came from previous president MaryAnn Barnninger’s initiative to “help bring more stellar student-athletes to both our athletics program and the classroom.”

The team’s founding head coach and Director of Volleyball, Alyssa Broccoli, moved to Drew from Hunter College after being asked to head the team.

When asked about the fledgling team’s conference championship tournament debut, she responded, “It’s taken a lot of time; it is not something that’s happened overnight…I would just say recruiting was a big part of our success over the last few years. We’re getting better every year, and I think that’s because of the experience we have on the team.”
