The Drew University men’s and women’s tennis teams continued Landmark Conference play with a match against Juniata College on Saturday, April 21. The Ranger men suffered their second conference loss by an 8-1 count, while the women fell to the Eagles with a score of 6-3.
On the women’s side, the Rangers secured a victory through Ashley Camel (’20) and Christina Christodoulou (’20) at No. 1 doubles, along with a pair of singles victories from Cristina Riccio (’20) in the No. 2 spot and Kathryn Swenor (’18) in the No. 4 spot. The men secured their only victory of the day with a Lloyd Goldstein (’20) win in the No. 6 singles match.
The Rangers returned to the courts the next day to play against another Landmark opponent at Susquehanna University on April 22. The women snapped their three-game losing streak with a dominant 8-1 victory against the River Hawks, while the men suffered a tight 5-4 loss, eliminating them from the final spot in the Landmark Tournament.
On the men’s side, Vineet Vemulapally (’19) and Will Morrison (’19) teamed up to secure the No. 1 doubles victory, while Vemulapally secured a singles victory of his own in the No. 1 spot. Goldstein secured victory again in the No. 6 singles match. On the women’s side, Drew swept singles play, with Camel securing the No. 1 victory, Maria Navas Espinal (’20) securing the No. 2 victory, Ty Ty Witten (’19) in the No. 3 spot, Riccio in No. 4, Christodoulou securing No. 5 and Swenor capping the streak with a victory in the No. 6 spot. The women dominated the doubles matches as well, with Camel and Witten emerging victorious in the No. 1 spot, while Riccio and Christodoulou defeated the River Hawks’ No. 2 pair.
The Ranger men concluded their 2017-18 season with a perfect 9-0 victory against Moravian College on Tuesday, April 24. The duo of Morrison and Vemulapally secured the No. 1 doubles victory, while Bryce Kennedy (’21) and Karel Raska (’21) teamed up to secure the No. 2 spot, and Chris Morville (’19) and Bryce Weizer (’20) secured the No. 3 spot. Vemulapally claimed a singles title of his own with a victory in the No. 1 spot, and so did Morrison in the No. 2 spot, Kennedy in the No. 3 spot, Raska in No. 4, Weizer in No. 5 and Goldstein in the No. 6 spot.
The Ranger women concluded their 2017-18 season with a match against Moravian College on Thursday, April 26. They dropped the match to the Greyhounds by a narrow 4-5 margin. Camel and Witten beat their No. 1 and No. 2 singles opponents, later teaming up to secure the victory at the No. 1 doubles spot as well. In her final collegiate match, Swenor earned a victory at No. 6 singles to round out the scoring for the Rangers.
