The Rangers were able to snap their losing streak this week as they split their Conference doubleheader against the Juniata College Eagles. The Eagles took the first game 7-4, but the Rangers roared back in the second, crushing Juniata 14-4. Drew went onto score 11 runs in the first inning to put the game to bed early. Adriana Rodriguez (‘21) delivered several big blows with a grand slam in the first inning and hitting a double later in the game. Megan Holmes (‘21) was able to pick up her second victory of the year in the circle as she and the Drew defense were able to keep Juniata to only four runs.
Drew was able to take the momentum from their previous wins into their doubleheader with Lehman College as they swept the Lightning, winning the first game 11-2 and the second by a score of 2-1. Vanessa Villahermosa (‘18) led the Rangers’ offense in the first game with three runs batted in. Pitcher Cara O’Leary (‘19) picked up her third win of the season. In the second game, it was Heather Ronchi (‘18) and Sophie Sirota (‘21) supplying the only two runs the Rangers would need. From there it was all pitching and defense as Victoria Avella (‘19) pitched seven innings allowing only seven hits and one run to pick up her second win of the season.
The battle of Madison Ave belonged to FDU this year, as they took both games from the Rangers winning 8-2 in the first game and 10-2 in the second. On a positive note, Heather Ronchi cemented her place in Rangers history by becoming Drew’s all-time hits leader with her 153rd hit this week. Drew will be back in action against Landmark Conference rival Moravian home this Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
