Tennis Dominates Early in Season

The Drew University men’s tennis team posted two dominant victories against Rutgers-Newark and the Pratt Institute on Saturday, March 22. The Rangers demolished both the Scarlet Raiders and the Cannoneers with perfect 9-0 scores.

Against Rutgers-Newark, Vineet Vemulapally (’19) teamed up with Geoffrey Diehl (’20) to secure the No 1. Doubles victory with a score of 8-2, while Karel Raska (’21) and Bryce Weizer (’20) secured the No 2. Doubles victory with a score of 8-2. Will Morrison (’19) and Chris Thompson (’20) secured the No 3. Doubles victory with a score of 8-0. Drew also swept the singles matches, with Vemulapally claiming No. 1, Diehl claiming No. 2, Morrison claiming No. 3, Bryce Kennedy (’21) claiming No. 4, Raska with No. 5 and Lloyd Goldstein (’20) with No. 6.

The Rangers then completed their victorious sweep of the matches for the day by posting dominating victories in all the singles and doubles matches against Pratt. As a mark of the Rangers’ success, Vemulapally was chosen as the Landmark Athlete of the Week on March 26, for the third time in his career.

The Rangers returned to the court on Tuesday, March 27, to face-off against Albright College. The Ranger men posted their fourth 9-0 victory of the season, with the women mirroring them by posting an 8-0 victory.

On the men’s side, Vemulapally and Diehl claimed the No. 1 singles victory with a score of 8-0, Morrison and Kennedy claimed No. 2 with a score of 8-5 and Raska and Weizer secured the No. 3 victory with a score of 8-1. The Rangers completed their sweep by emerging victorious in all six singles matches.

On the women’s side, the Rangers had a 2-0 victory due to Albright defaults at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, which moved up to 3-0 due to an Albright forfeit. Ashley Camel (’20) and Ty Ty Witten (’19) secured the No. 1 doubles victory with a score of 8-5, and Christina Christodoulou (’20) and Xylia Bruff (’19) secured the No. 2 victory. The Rangers concluded the day with victories in all five singles matches.

The Rangers will begin their Landmark Conference schedule this Saturday, March 30, in a match against Moravian College.
