On Saturday, October 28, the Drew University women’s soccer team closed their 2017 season with a 1-0 victory over Goucher. The Rangers’ final Landmark record stands at 2-5-0 and their overall record for the season is 7-10-1.
Sarah Racine (‘21) scored an early goal to put the Rangers on top off a cross by Leah Dentale (‘21). With a total of seven goals this season, Racine finished the season as the team leader. Dentale had a season total of seven assists. In minute 24, Alex Gilgorri (‘19) had a chance to double the lead, but her attempt hit the post. Goucher had an opportunity to equalize in minute 35, but the shot hit the crossbar and Drew held their lead into halftime.
In the second half, Drew kept up the offensive dominance. Katie Weber (’18) had a shot saved off the goal line and Gilgorri hit a second shot off the crossbar. The Gophers had an opportunity to equalize in the last minute of play, but the shot went high and Drew clutched their win. Overall, Drew outshot their opponents by a 12-4 ratio.
Madison Dudzeic (‘21) and Brielle Castanheira (‘19) split time in goal to earn Drew’s fifth shutout of the year. Each keeper made one save.
The Rangers victory celebrated the collegiate careers of their seniors; Katie Weber, Emily Bradford, Erin Connors and Thalia Santacruz with a Senior Day celebration as well.
