April is always a busy month in the Concert Hall and this weekend kicks off the month’s packed schedule with two concerts that shouldn’t be missed. On both Friday and Saturday night, there will be opportunities to hear great music by professional performers and Drew musicians.
Friday kicks off the musical weekend with a performance by the Kinnara Ensemble of their concert entitled Provenance. The Kinnara Ensemble is a New Jersey based chamber choir who the Drew Music Department has brought to perform. Their program on Friday is stacked with outstanding choral works. Friday’s concert will feature double choir motets by Brahms, Poulenc chansons and “Lamentations of Jeremiah” by Ginastera. If you’re even remotely interested in vocal music, make sure to swing by the DOYO Friday nights to catch this concert. Even better, tickets for Drew students are only $5, while general admission is $25.
Saturday’s concert is a special event that you won’t want to miss, the Songs for Smiles benefit concert, a Senior Civic Project by Civic Scholar Brianna Donofrio (’17). This concert will feature all of the different performing ensembles at Drew including Chorale, Choral Union, Chamber Orchestra, Jill Spurr Titus Chamber Musicians, 36 Madison Avenue, On a Different Note and All of the Above. Not only is this a great chance to hear all of the amazing musical talent that we have right here in the forest, it is also a great opportunity to give back to our community. All of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Pediatric Cancer Unit of the Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center. Student tickets are only $5, and with all proceeds going to such a great cause it’s completely worth it. Plus, if you’re a Civic Scholar, attending this event will get you extra civic hours. Make sure you make it to this concert to not only hear some awesome music by fellow Drewids but to help out collect money for children with cancer.
