On Thursday, Oct. 30, students and faculty gathered in the Founders Room in Mead Hall for the return of the famous faculty bake-off competition at the psychology department’s very own PsychToberfest.

Students who have already declared their majors or minors in psychology, and those interested in doing so, gathered after the Psychology Discover Your Major event to taste themed desserts hand-made by Drew faculty and to hang out with friends and professors.

Pizza and light refreshments were provided alongside the desserts, but the treats were far more popular amongst those in attendance.

Ballots were handed out after everyone tasted the desserts, and students were able to vote on the best-tasting treat, the dessert with the best name and which faculty member made each dessert.

The winners included the “Dopamine Delight,” which was a chocolate mousse cake made by Professor Landrigan that won for best name, and Professor Dolan’s “Cognitive Cookie,” which was a delicious chocolate chip cookie that was undoubtedly a fan favorite, causing it to win the best dessert overall.

Other desserts included Professor Morgan’s “Statistical Signifi-Candy,” which was a chocolate caramel candy bark, the “Psyche Pantespani,” a sweet bread soaked in a type of syrup and lastly the “Choco-ID Chocolate Cookies” made by Professor Medvecky.

The desserts were so carefully thought out and delicious that every student had their plates full, and by the end of the event, there were no leftovers to be seen on the serving table.

Allison Cannon (‘28) said, “The food was amazing and the mystery of the competition was so fun.”

“We have had a fall social event for decades, but this year we went back to the bake-off,” said Professor Dolan, chair of the psychology department. “It’s just a nice social event for everyone to see the community of psychology majors and to see the faculty members as humans poking fun at one another.”

The Psychology Department will host another event in the spring to celebrate the graduating students and to get together again to celebrate the psychology community that has been built here at Drew.

Casey Bush is a sophomore who is majoring in psychology.
