At this year’s Medfest, there will be a duel between Kevin Feinstein (‘28) and Vinny McIlvaine (‘28).
As per tradition, That Medieval Thing is hosting its annual renfaire, Medfest. Over the course of the semester, the students have rehearsed their roles as King Arthur and Sir Lancelot from the Arthurian myth.
To prepare, they were both inspired to try method acting, a way actors rehearse their role by always staying in character. The students have reported seeing concerning acts from both Feinstein and McIlvaine.
One student said, “I was just at Commons and saw Vinny cutting his eggs with a metal sword. He broke the plate and the table. Facilities still has not replaced it.”
Another student reported finding Feinstein training in the woods. The student said, “I was just going for a morning jog in the forest when Kevin came out of nowhere and chased me with a sword all the way back to my dorm.” This has become a regular occurrence.
The student body has gotten so invested that bets have been placed on various sports gambling websites. The bets are currently at a stalemate with an even fifty-fifty.
Anticipation is especially high due to McIlvaine’s previous fight in last semester’s Revels performance, in which he faced a near-eye injury mid-fight with Feinstein and continued. That duel ended with McIlvaine objectively winning the fight and the audience’s support.
Jakob Spotts (‘28), who plays Feinstein’s father, has also placed his bet. He said, “I believe that my son can do anything he puts his heart to. Except fighting against Vinny. Vinny is going to demolish him.”
Dee Cohen (‘26), who plays the court physician, said, “My quarters will be open all day for whoever the loser is.”
The fight is set to take place on April 26, outside the Hoyt dorms. Facilities will paint a rectangle on the lawn to show where the fight will happen. Bets can be placed in person as well as online.
