The purpose of “Blind Date With a Book” was to introduce students to works of literature that they otherwise would not have read. Sigma Tau Delta hosted the event on Feb. 28 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in which the student body was tasked with bringing books to be wrapped and put under a tree.

Once the book was wrapped, it was labeled with a hint as to its contents or the general premise of the story. There was a selection to browse through, and the goal was for students to choose a wrapped book that piqued their interest the most.
The concept was to go on a “blind date” of sorts and get out of one’s comfort zone in literacy. This event was an opportunity to take a chance on a novel without being swayed by what someone is used to reading. Dee Cohen (‘26), who is currently enjoying her new copy of “The Odyssey,” said, “[The event] was a great chance to get a book that you otherwise would not have gotten.”
After students had chosen their book, there were plenty of opportunities for trading; however, everyone seemed content with their choices, or at least were willing to give it a try due to the lack of exchange.
“Blind Date With a Book” served as an opportunity to discover new reads and meet fellow literature lovers, all in the comfort of Sitterly House.
