On Sept. 13, Drew Student Activities prepared the Ehinger Center for a night filled with traditional scouting activities, such as friendship bracelet making, cookie box decorating and creating your own fire, as well as a look into sustainability and scouting values.
The event’s student organizer, Natalie Parkhill (‘26), was inspired by Drew’s activist mindset when creating the event. “The core mission is to bring community and raise awareness, to bring more of the scouting life and values to Drew,” said Parkhill. Having been a Girl Scout herself, Parkhill advocates for community-building within Drew University.
Parkhill was also largely inspired by sustainability for this event. “I’m taking many environmental classes because of the values that come from scouting, many of the materials used tonight are recyclable due to that fact,” said Parkhill when questioned about her reasoning for the event.
“It’s really fun, I like that at each station I can be a Boy Scout and earn a badge when I’m done,” said Lauren Cagliostro (‘25). “I love Drew NightLife, we go to most events. It’s a good way to end the week.”
The event itself was a success. With themed raffle prizes such as painting kits and Girl Scout Cookies being given away, students stayed the entirety of the event. “I love the different activities and I love being creative. It’s fun having something to do on a Friday night, instead of staying in the dorm,” said Gianna Treiber (‘28).
Drew NightLife hosts events in the Ehinger Center every Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight.
