The Drew University baseball team delivered one of its most thrilling performances of the season on Sunday, rallying for a dramatic walk-off victory before completing a doubleheader sweep of Juniata College at Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium.
The Rangers erased a seven-run deficit in the opener to win 10-9, clinching a berth in the Landmark Conference Championships in unforgettable fashion. They followed it up with a commanding 8-1 victory in the second game to secure the three-game series sweep.
Drew wrapped up its regular season on April 29 and will be heading on the road for the opening round of the Landmark Conference Championship on May 6. The remainder of the tournament is scheduled for May 8–10 at Penn Medicine Park in Lancaster, P.A.
Before the first pitch, the program honored its senior class, Nick Bisaccia (‘26), Benjamin Cacoilo (‘26), Kyle Johnson (‘26), Brandon Kobryn (‘26), Luke Tambasco (‘26) and Chris Tobia, (‘26) along with Nate Sica (‘26), who completed his degree in just three years.
The opener quickly turned into a rollercoaster. After falling behind 9-2, Drew chipped away with four runs across the fifth and sixth innings to make it 9-6 entering the ninth. What followed was a season-defining rally.
Matteo Gruendig (‘29) sparked the comeback with a pinch-hit walk, and consecutive singles cut the deficit to two. Dylan Gallagher (‘28) then delivered an RBI single to bring the Rangers within one.
With pressure mounting, Drew executed a perfectly timed double steal to move two runners into scoring position. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Anthony Tetto (‘29) stepped to the plate and delivered the decisive blow, a walk-off, two-run double that sent the Rangers pouring onto the field in celebration and punched their ticket to the postseason.
Gallagher led the charge in Game 1, going 4-for-5, while Tetto added three RBIs, including the game-tying and game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th. On the mound, Brody Allyn (‘28) earned the win with two shutout innings of relief, while Aidan Bauer (‘27) also contributed with 3 innings, including getting out of a jam in the 7th inning to keep the deficit from growing
The Rangers carried that momentum into Game 2. Drew’s offense provided plenty of support, erupting for five runs in the third inning. The Rangers added three more runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach, while freshman Mikey Sica (‘29) delivered 8 quality innings in the finest start of his young career thus far
In a fitting tribute on Senior Day, four seniors saw action in the finale. Tobia recorded two outs in the ninth inning, and Johnson sealed the victory with the final out.
With momentum building and a postseason berth secured, the Rangers now turn their focus to the Landmark Conference Championships, where they’ll look to extend their season—and add another memorable chapter to an already dramatic year.
