Monday night was highlighted by a lively atmosphere and stylish outfits at the annual SheLeads fashion show in S.W. Bowne Hall. The club’s members took turns strutting across the stage in demonstration of the wide variety of clothes while being introduced by their fellow club mates, offering an empowering display of women supporting women in their pursuits of success in their respective future careers.
The event was hosted by the copresident of the club, Cameryn Brown (‘25), who previewed the event by offering insight on acceptable clothing for women in the office, emphasizing the importance that a professional outfit possesses on impressions and images for women in the workplace, specifically in male-dominated fields.
In their newest endeavor, SheLeads partnered with the Career Closet on Drew’s campus to provide two free outfits per semester to Drew students. In fact, certain pieces worn by the SheLeads staff members during the show were directly from the Career Closet, showing the importance of taking advantage of the invaluable resource. “We were able to show off just a small amount of what the Career Closet on campus has to provide … It’s not worth breaking the bank when there are great alternatives at the same style and quality elsewhere,” Brown said when asked about the overall message of this event.
Monday’s event was just the latest in a recent string of enjoyable, creative events at the hands of the SheLeads organization. Despite being a young club, the group has garnered interest among determined individuals on campus, hosting events such as a Jeopardy event on historically significant women, a resume workshop and a free professional headshot before the fashion show.
“SheLeads is a strong, caring and community-driven atmosphere,” Brown shared. “Each and every one of us is so incredibly passionate about what we value and making a difference on and off campus, that it truly makes us a force to be reckoned with … We hope more students on campus come join us for more exciting events and get involved – we are stronger together!”
Monday’s fashion show represented more than just an opportunity to show off the variety of stylistic options for women. Rather, it was a pure, unfiltered display of women reinforcing other women, all in pursuit of the common goal to gain familiarity and comfort in order to excel in their future fields.
