Drew University’s men and women’s swim and diving team fell to Susquehanna University last weekend, in a tight Landmark Conference battle. Susquehanna outscored the women’s team by a score of 89 to 182 while the men fell as well by a score of 98 to 169.
The Ranger women got off to a quick start with Malavika Vishwanath (’20) winning event five, the 200 yard freestyle with a time just below two minutes. Jordan Jessup (’17) and Stephanie Cushman (’20) then followed up with a big win for the 200 yard backstroke. Vishwanath continued her winning ways as she went on to complete another win, this time the race being the 500 yard freestyle. She finished with a score of five minutes and 10 seconds.
For the 400 yard freestyle relay, the team came together to grab a huge win that started with Jenny Stein (’18), Vishwanath, Jessup and Jamie Riffel (’20). Stein then got her own win when she took home one of the last events.
Jack Mahoney (’20) got things started off for the Rangers men, as he gathered the 200 yard freestyle win. Michael Ma (’20) followed with a win of his own for the 200 yard butterfly. Mahoney finished with a time of one minute and 48 seconds and Ma finished with a time of two minutes and five seconds. John Rinald (’20) captured event 20 for the Rangers, he won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of two minutes and 22 seconds.
The 500 yard freestyle was the won by Mack Fox (’19) and then was followed by teammates Ma and Ryan Underwood (’20) who won the 100 yard butterfly with times right under one minute. The Rangers will compete next week in a tri-meet against Elizabethtown College and rivals FDU from across the street.
