Drew University’s women’s tennis team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 7-2 in their season opener earlier this week, starting their season with a 0-1 record.

Ashley Camel (’20) achieved victory in her first collegiate match, going 6-0, 6-3, over the Ducks top singles player in straight sets, shortly after being defeated in a close double match with her partner Ty Ty Witten (’19) at first doubles, with a score of 8-6. Witten also went on to win her singles match at the number two spot when she battled back from behind in her second set, winning 6-2, 7-5.

Jessica Cheng (’17) at number three singles and Maria Navas Espinal (’20) at number five each took their matches to three sets, but were unable to beat their opponents.

The Rangers look to improve their record this Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Berkeley College for their second match of their fall season.
